Nearly half a ton of food is being delivered to Caring at Christmas, the Bristol charity that runs a shelter for the homeless or vulnerably housed over the Christmas period. The collection, donated by staff, clients and business contacts of property adviser GVA, was made in just under week.
GVA's Vicky Oliver said: “This is the third year running we have made this collection and we are delighted to have increased the amount donated every year. We’d like to thank everyone who has contributed in what is a difficult economic time. Caring at Christmas does an amazing job with the donations it receives.”
Everything given goes directly towards providing support, comfort and care to those in need.
Caring at Christmas serves around 300 hot meals a day over the Christmas period. By requesting non-perishable goods, GVA has been able to donate items such as 1,300 portions of rice and pasta, and 11,000 tea bags.
Over the Christmas week Caring at Christmas will be providing the only 24-hour shelter in the city for those who would have nowhere else to go at this time of the year. It offers fifty beds, and provides three meals a day, showers, clothes, a safe and friendly environment, books, a television and people to talk to. It also provides access to medical services as well as others such as chiropody, reflexology, hairdressing, live music and more.
Anyone wishing to support Caring at Christmas can do so by contacting Caring at Christmas on 0117 924 4444, or email them on: info@caringatchristmas.org.uk
