A Bristol-based online restaurant marketing and food delivery company is looking to revolutionise the idea of the humble takeaway in the city.
The brainchild of a Bristol academic specialising in air quality, FoodCouriers, which launches in September, also aims to change the way meals are delivered to minimise its environmental impact.
FoodCouriers was founded in March by UWE research associate Dotun Olowoporoku. Aware of the popularity of existing online food delivery portals, he saw a gap in the market to offer home delivery with a difference.
He has teamed up with some of Bristol’s best eateries to give food lovers the chance to enjoy quality meals delivered straight to their door.
“Many people in Bristol enjoy takeaway and home-delivered food as an alternative to cooking or eating out”, said Dotun.
“We’re aiming to open up opportunities for Bristol’s top restaurants to offer home delivery to their customers. FoodCouriers will take care of customer orders and delivery, leaving the restaurants to do what they do best: cook great food.”
Dotun’s commitment to environmental causes is a key ingredient of FoodCouriers.
“My main research (at UWE) was to investigate how local authorities can integrate the management of air quality into their local transport plans,” he said.
“Local businesses play a key role in this, and I wanted to champion some of the key applications of my research in the real world. We will be aiming to make most of our deliveries using low emission vehicles, such as electric bikes and electric motorbikes – we’re hoping to set the standard for how food and drink deliveries should be made in Bristol.”
FoodCouriers has provided food delivery services for four top Bristol restaurants – Obento, Zen Harbourside, Dynasty and My Burrito – for more than eight months and currently process on average 90 orders a week by sharing delivery drivers among its clients – so reducing the need for the restaurants to hire their own drivers.
Restaurants that have already signed up for the new service, which goes live on September 3, include Old India, Kathmandu, The Lanes, Warren’s Gourmet Burger Co. and The Burger Joint, whose owner Dan Bekhradnia, said: “We are excited to be working with this fantastic new business and are very pleased that people will now be able to enjoy our burgers without even having to leave their home.”
FoodCouriers will be running a pre-launch, discounted trial from August 13.
