Bristol businesses keen to learn more about how ‘smart’ cities are evolving are being encouraged to join a London-led fact-finding mission to the China in July.

The delegation will visit Hong Kong and Macau – widely regarded as two of the world’s leading cities for urban innovation in areas such as transport, waste, construction and energy.

Businesses have until the end of May to register for the mission, which is organised by London Mayor Boris Johnson’s Export Programme in partnership with UK Trade & Investment. The five-day programme starts on July 4.

Taking part from Bristol is West of England China Bureau director Richard Lowe, pictured.

He said: “Businesses will have the opportunity to observe and advise on the challenges being faced by the civic authorities in Hong Kong and Macau as they balance massive population growth with modern business needs and tourism interests.

“Companies with the required qualifying criteria will have an opportunity to see how two of the most densely populated cities on earth are proposing to deal with existing urban pressures such as increasing traffic congestion, limited housing stock and booming population densities.

“Unlike some previous trade missions this one will provide networking opportunities where business people can meet their Chinese counterparts and do business as well as exchanging information to help shape their smart city and business strategies.”

To be eligible, businesses must have an office or presence in London.
