Independent news website Bristol24-7 has picked up its second award in a week – retaining the EDF Energy South West Website of the Year title to follow on from its commendation in the Online Media Awards.

At the EDF Awards ceremony in Bath, Bristol 24-7 was praised for its range of content and "clear commercial success", allowing it to beat Cheltenham-based arts, entertainments and leisure online magazine SoGlos.com to the title.

The win repeats Bristol 24-7’s success last year, and builds on its appearance in the Best Local News Website category of the Online Media Awards.

Bristol 24-7 founder and editor Chris Brown said: I'm naturally delighted to have won again, particularly as SoGlos.com – our rival for the title – appears to have really kicked on in the past year and is doing so well.

“It's testament to the work put in by all our contributors and, crucially, the support we are now receiving from businesses in and around Bristol, who are now advertising with us and taking us on for our digital marketing services.

“Commercial success was a key requirement for the judges to consider, so it's really pleasing to see that this is being recognised.”

Chris, a former Western Daily Press journalist, said he has big plans for the next 12 months. “There is still a huge amount of work to do to get Bristol24-7 to the level I want it to reach. The awards we've got in the last week are a big boost for me personally, so watch this space,” he said.
