Accountants and business advisers BDO are holding a free seminar in Bristol next Tuesday for family lawyers dealing with the protection and preservation of their clients’ assets.
The seminar, at the Mercure Bristol Holland House Hotel, will consider options available to clients and discuss how to plan a cost-effective transfer of assets. Topics to be covered include asset protection in relation to divorce, marital agreements, tax-efficient transfers and liquidity.
Speaking at the event will be Daniel Leafe from Bristol-based Albion Chambers, Sarah Woodsford from Bristol law firm Burges Salmon and Mike Mason from BDO.
Mr Leafe will discuss trusts and divorce settlements while Ms Woodsford, who is accredited by Resolution as a specialist in complex asset cases, will focus on pre and post-marital agreements and other asset protection mechanisms.
Mr Mason, BDO’s forensic accounting director and chairman of its national Family Law Group, will provide insight into the issues surrounding clauses in company Articles and shareholders’ agreements, the tax efficient transfer of assets, liquidity options and the minority interests.
He said: “This seminar will give family lawyers in Bristol a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of asset protection and preservation. We’re using recent landmark cases to demonstrate and interrogate legal developments and what they mean for our clients.”
The continuing professional development event is between 8am and 10am. For more information contact Faye Hall on 0117 930 1580 or email faye.hall@bdo.co.uk
