Innovative serviced office operator Desklodge has almost doubled its Bristol operation following the acquisition of further office space.

The London-based firm has taken an additional 10,800 sq ft at 1 Temple Way just over a year after opening its original base in the building – a space already rated as one of the world’s coolest.

Desklodge, which also has a centre in Hemel Hempstead, acquired the entire fifth floor of the landmark building in last year to provide cutting-edge, flexible co-working space with its own unique innovative design.

The move means the 81,000 sq ft building – formerly known locally as the Evening Post building – is now fully let.

Earlier this year the Desklodge Bristol centre was named one of the 15 Coolest offices in the World by the Daily Telegraph along with iconic workplaces operated by Google, AOL, Hootsuite and Virgin Money.

The company has also been shortlisted for the title ‘co-working space of the year’.

Following its success in Bristol, Desklodge decided to acquire the fourth floor at 1 Temple Way on a new 10-year lease and now the operation is now run on two consecutive floors in the building.

The offices are popular with small creative and digital firms, freelancers and consultants who can hire desks for a few hours.

1 Temple Way, built in the 1970s, was formerly entirely occupied by Bristol United Press, publisher of the Bristol Evening Post and sister title the Western Daily Press. But following several changes of ownership and largescale redundancies linked to the decline of the firm’s newspapers, the publishing operation – now owned by newspaper group Trinity Mirror – occupies only a small part of the building.

Other occupiers include Amey Rail, Healthcare Financial Management Association, Skills for Health and law firm Simpson Millar.

Natalie Bennett of Bristol-based letting agents Hartnell Taylor Cook said: “The refurbished offices provide good quality open-plan space and we are delighted a company of Desklodge’s reputation has been able to expand its operations so quickly and easily without having to move premises.

“The office market in the city is tightening especially for good quality second-hand space offering over 10,000 sq ft and having Desklodge in the city is a major coup.”

Hartnell Taylor Cook and Williams Gunter Hardwick advised owners HPPUT.
