Bristol design and advertising agency Synergy Creative has won an Excellence Award at the Institute of Internal Communications Awards 2012 for its branding and employee engagement campaign for 1610 leisure trust.

Synergy was tasked with creating a new name for the trust as well as new logo and corporate identity to reflect its new, more commercial, identity as well as retaining its community roots. It also managed a pre-launch engagement campaign with the organisation’s 500 employees and its launch to the public last November.

1610 – formerly Somerset Leisure – is a non profit making leisure trust managing 17 leisure centres on school sites in Somerset and Devon.

The trust itself has also hailed the campaign an overwhelming success following a 25% increase in membership and an 86% increase in the number of weekly visits to its centres since the launch of the new brand.

Synergy Creative director Giles Hicks said: “The impact of the campaign is a great illustration of how rebranding and employee engagement can have a tangible impact on how a business is perceived, and how it performs.

“It’s been great to see how inspired the team have been by the new brand and while it’s fantastic to be recognised for the award, it’s even more satisfying to see that it has had a tangible impact on the way the business operates and performs.”

Synergy works with clients such as Ladbrokes, Bristol Airport, food group Birds Eye, Arcadia Housing and Bristol employee benefits firm Jelf across a range of areas including branding, marketing communications, engaging employee internal communications and corporate communications.
