Bristol innovation hub Engine Shed has teamed up with the RSA to host a briefing exploring the convergence of the scale-up and inclusive growth agendas.
Called Scale Up Inclusively – Minding the Gap, the event on February 24 will hear from a panel of speakers including Mayor of Bristol Marvin Rees.
The event, from 4pm – 5.30pm, will explore how the national scale-up agenda can be delivered in a way that works for the Bristol city-region.
With Bristol creating an environment where businesses have the opportunity to scale-up, particularly in its tech, creative/digital and green sectors, many commentators see the opportunities that arise from this growth as a way of helping reduce rather than increasing the city’s inequality gap.
Joining Mayor Marvin Rees on the panel will be Irene Graham, CEO of The Scale Up Institute, Charlotte Alldritt, director of the RSA’s Inclusive Growth Commission and Helen Smith, Professor of Economics at the University of Bristol.
The CEO of a scale-up business is also expected to appear on the panel.
Engine Shed director Nick Sturge said: “The aim of this event is to be informative, provocative, raise awareness, generate new ideas and thoughts, and help build an inclusive scale-up ecosystem. We hope as many people as possible can attend and contribute to that thinking.
The event, which is sponsored by Bristol-headquartered national law firm TLT, will set the scene for a series of Engine Shed/RSA briefings this year that contribute to helping businesses scale up.

The event follows two conferences staged by Bristol City Council and Business West to explore inclusive business growth in the city.

Next to Temple Meads railway station and in the heart of the Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone, its mission is to stimulate long-term economic growth by supporting business, inspiring young people to get involved and to showcase to the public and potential inward investors the exciting opportunities that exist here.
