Bristol-based ethical investment management firm Rathbone Greenbank is to host a high-profile seminar and discussion as part of the city’s Big Green Week.
Among the speakers at the event, on the theme of ‘Investing in the Future’, will be Eden Project co-founder and executive vice chair Sir Tim Smit.
His presentation will be followed by a series of short talks by prominent local figures involved in creating a more sustainable future, including:
- Juliet Davenport – CEO and founder of green energy firm Good Energy
- John David – head of Rathbone Greenbank Investments
- Merlin Hyman – chief executive of Regen SW
- Joanna Lewis – assistant director, strategy, of Bristol-based Soil Association and Food for Life Partnership
- Nick Sturge – centre director at hi-tech incubator SETsquared Bristol
Each speaker will look at how their organisations are meeting the diverse challenges of investing in the planet’s future for generations to come. The event takes place on June 18 at the At-Bristol science centre, Harbourside.
Head of Rathbone Greenbank Investments, John David, said: “2015 is a landmark year for Bristol –winning the European Green Capital award puts the city at the forefront of the sustainability debate. We believe that bringing together businesses, organisations and individuals working within the sustainability arena will act as a catalyst to promote further debate and encourage further action towards creating a more sustainable future.
“While we see sustainability as a necessity, it should also be seen as an opportunity. Companies offering products and services which meet the needs of society in a sustainable way are likely to be successful over the long term. This is an important consideration for employers, employees, and society as a whole.
“As specialist ethical and sustainable investment managers, it is these companies that we seek out for our investors not just because it is the ‘right thing’ to do from a moral standpoint but because it makes good financial sense too.”
Rathbone Greenbank Investments, which has been based in Bristol since 1997, is the specialist ethical and sustainable investment team of Rathbone Brothers, the FTSE 250-listed asset management group.
