Bristol-headquartered TLT is celebrating a notable double this week – landing one of the legal sector’s top awards and being named as one of the UK’s best law firms for the fourth year running.

TLT took home the top prize at The Lawyer Awards 2021 – Law Firm of the Year. The awards celebrate the best teams and most innovative practices in the legal profession.

Meanwhile it was also recognised in The Times Best Law Firms for its expertise in eight practice areas across England and Wales.

Judges in The Lawyer Awards praised TLT for its long-term reinvention and early targeting of green sector, with Catrin Griffiths, editor of The Lawyer, stating the firm was “a case study of how to move up the value chain for blue-chip companies and government work alike”.

Presenting the award, she added: “This year’s outstanding financials topped a decade of transformation, of strategic nous, sector focus and above all, client delivery.”

The two achievements follow a series of award successes for TLT in recent weeks, including being ‘highly commended’ for Law Firm of the Year at the Legal Business Awards and winning Excellence in Client Care at the Scottish Legal Awards.

The firm is also shortlisted for Law Firm of the Year at the British Legal Awards later this month.

TLT’s clean energy team was also nominated by The Lawyer in recognition of the firm’s work on cutting-edge projects following a standout year of activity for headline clients in the sector.

The eight TLT practice areas commended in The Times Best Law Firms report were banking & finance; commercial dispute resolution; commercial property; company & commercial; employment; energy & renewables; insolvency & restructuring; and intellectual property.

The list is peer-selected, with survey respondents asked to recommend the best law firms across 26 categories, covering business, public and private-client.

The report was compiled in co-operation with specialist business researchers Statista, and lists the top 200 legal practices in England and Wales and Scotland’s top 40.

TLT managing partner John Wood, pictured, said: “Winning Law Firm of the Year is a fantastic achievement and a clear indication that our firmwide strategy is working well and that we’re continuing to deliver excellence for our clients.

“Our inclusion in The Times Best Law Firms list is a clear indication that our firmwide strategy is working well and that we’re continuing to deliver excellence for our clients.

“Year on year the number of categories we are commended in has increased, demonstrating that our progress and commitment to our service offering has not gone unnoticed. It’s great to see that our expertise is recognised by our peers.”

He said the firm’s ongoing investment and the dedication of everyone at the firm was yielding strong growth and further enhancing its UK-wide, full-service offering for its clients.

“It’s great to see that our progress has not gone unnoticed by the wider market – our hat-trick of nominations at all three of the legal industry’s most prestigious awards underscores TLT’s reputation as a leading UK firm and recognises the firm’s impressive progress over the last year,” he said.

“I am grateful to all of our colleagues and clients who have each contributed to this win and who are a crucial part of what comes next.”

During the past year TLT has agreed formal strategic alliances with partner firms in Holland and Belgium to strengthen international support for clients and accelerate the development of its UK offer and its wider international network.

In July it said it planned to accelerate its growth in the UK and overseas, including providing non-legal support to clients in areas such as sustainability, diversity and wellness, after posting a 11.3% increase in its annual revenues to £110m.
