The Bristol office of transatlantic law firm (WBD) Womble Bond Dickinson has donated around 200kg of food and drinks to East Bristol Foodbank as it faced one of its busiest periods over the summer school holidays.

The donation was part of a firm-wide effort to support foodbanks across the UK. Its foodbank appeal was launched at the beginning of August and spearheaded by WBD’s UK offices, which have already donated around one tonne of food and drinks to local foodbanks this summer.

WBD has been supporting foodbanks over the past 12 months and in total has donated more than 2.5 tonnes of much-needed food and drinks.

The East Bristol Foodbank is founded by local churches and community groups and is part of a nationwide network supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK. The 200kg of food and drinks donated by WBD will help feed 26 people for three days.

WBD Bristol office partner and head of corporate social responsibility (CSR) Jonathan Bower, pictured, said: “We strongly believe that successful businesses have a responsibility to support their local communities. We’re delighted to have been able to help East Bristol Foodbank so it can remain stocked up and can continue to support families and everyone that is in need all year round.

“We would like to say a big thank you to all our staff – here in Bristol and across the country – who really got behind the appeal this summer to help us reach the impressive one tonne mark.”

Bristol City Council cabinet member for education & skills Cllr Anna Keen added: “Mayor Marvin Rees has backed the campaign to make Bristol a Zero Hunger City. The issue of food shortage within families is particularly acute in the school holidays so it is great that responsible businesses in the city like Womble Bond Dickinson support foodbanks and have come together to make this donation.”

WBD is heavily involved in a comprehensive CSR programme in Bristol, supporting a number of charities, community projects and initiatives including St Peter’s Hospice, Bristol Sport Community Foundation reading stars, Oasis Brightstowe Academy mentoring and the Prince’s Trust.
