The Bristol office of international law firm DAC Beachcroft has formed a partnership with Big Issue eBikes to sponsor electric bicycles for exclusive use by its staff.
The firm, which has its largest UK office in Bristol, is sponsoring 20 eBikes under a scheme run by ShareBike UK in partnership with the Big Issue Group to create opportunities to share bikes while having a social impact.
The scheme operates as an employability project for homeless and vulnerably housed people by recruiting and retraining individuals who were previously unemployed and supporting them back into work.
DAC Beachcroft’s eBikes will be serviced and maintained, through the Big Issue Group, by people who are facing barriers to work in Bristol.
DAC Beachcroft head of responsible business Lois Duguid said: “We are delighted to be supporting this important project to help address homelessness and encourage sustainable travel.
“Our colleagues in Bristol are already taking part in the city’s annual Cycle September campaign and so we hope that a wide number of them will make use of the scheme.”
The first Big Issue eBikes were rolled out in Bristol earlier this year. There are now plans to expand nationwide and to provide hundreds of green jobs to under-served communities.
As well as the goal of reducing traffic and cutting pollution, the Big Issue eBikes scheme will recruit unemployed people from local communities.
They will receive retraining along with other support and services and will be paid the Living Wage.
