International law firm Clyde & Co has hired Clarke Willmott partner Peter O’Brien as it prepares to open its new Bristol office.
Clyde & Co announced it was to move into the Bristol legal market last November by hiring Ian Peacock from the Bristol office of transatlantic firm Womble Bond Dickinson and John Eastlake from Kennedys in London.
Both joined as partners in its Professional and Financial Disputes (PFD) Group. Now Peter O’Brien, pictured, is to join from regional firm Clarke Willmott’s Bristol office as a partner and member of Clyde & Co’s Global Projects & Construction Group.
Peter has more than 14 years’ experience as a leading lawyer in construction industry disputes. He specialises in construction dispute resolution, representing clients in a range of dispute forums in the UK and overseas, and also works for contractor and sub-contractor clients in the energy and infrastructure sectors.
Prior to becoming a solicitor Peter worked as a quantity surveyor, spending nearly a decade working on infrastructure projects in Asia.
He has also co-authored Payment in Construction Contracts – A Practical Guide published by RICS Books, and is an accredited adjudicator, as well as being a regular contributor to the legal press and a respected speaker on construction law.
He has expertise in energy and renewables from longstanding instructions from one of the UK’s leading power generators, having advised it on various major construction and renewables disputes. He has advised on procurement strategy and risk management on major projects, including on new power stations, bio-mass projects and combined heat and power schemes.
He joins 150 infrastructure lawyers across six continents at Clyde & Co, who deliver transactional and contentious legal services to the world’s most high-profile and complex infrastructure projects.
The firm will open its Bristol office in May. It already has nine UK offices, including London, Guildford and Oxford, as well as five in mainland Europe and 13 in North and South America.
It employs a total staff of 3,600 including 390 partners, 1,500 lawyers and 2,000 legal professionals.
