Organisers of The Welcome Party, which will celebrate the cultural and economic contributions of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants in Bristol, have announced two significant new supporters – The Guild of Guardians and City of Bristol College.

The pair join a list of sponsors for the high-profile event, which takes place on Thursday 7 November at The Mount Without on St Michael’s Hill.

Their involvement also brings additional momentum to a gathering that will underscore Bristol’s commitment to diversity and integration while celebrating resilience.

The Welcome Party is being organised by ACH, the Bristol social enterprise focused on integration and empowerment.

It will highlight the shared journeys and contributions of Bristol’s refugee communities and will include headline appearances from Sir Mo Farah, one of the UK’s most celebrated athletes and a former refugee, and Mozambique-born musician MoYah.

It will also present a unique opportunity for Bristol and West of England businesses to engage in meaningful discussions about diversity and inclusion, while forging new partnerships with like-minded organisations.

ACH regional partnership manager Paul Hassan welcomed the Guild of Guardians’ involvement, saying it highlighted the organisation’s “dedication to both preserving Bristol’s history and shaping its future”.

He added: “Its support reinforces our event’s key message of resilience and unity, making them a perfect partner in celebrating the achievements of those who have sought refuge in our city.”

Initially formed in 1978 by Alfred Telling CBE to enhance and maintain the treasures of the Mansion House in Clifton, the Guild has since become a pillar of civic support, assisting the Lord Mayoralty and enriching the city’s cultural landscape.

MoYah, who will share his own story of resilience through music at The Welcome Party, described City of Bristol College’s support as a testament to the vital role education plays in helping individuals succeed and integrate into the community.

“Education is one of the most powerful tools for empowerment,” he added.

The college has a long-standing reputation for opening doors to learning and opportunity for people from all backgrounds, and its backing of The Welcome Party reflects its deep commitment to supporting refugees and migrants as they build new lives in Bristol.

The Guild of Guardians and City of Bristol College have joined other event supporters, including Bristol-headquartered national law firm Burges Salmon Bath-based housing association and property group Curo and YTL Group utility company Wessex Water, also based in Bath.

ACH CEO Fuad Mahamed said each had contributed significantly to making The Welcome Party a reality, ensuring that the event would be a meaningful celebration of the diverse voices and experiences that enrich Bristol’s social and economic fabric.
