The Bristol Ferry Boat Company has resumed services after being rescued by a consortium of investors including original owner Ian Bungard.
The business went into liquidation in November after struggling with mounting debts – much to the disappointment of loyal passengers including commuters and residents as well as tourists.
Now the distinctive five-strong flotilla of yellow boats has resumed weekend services. A daily service will be re-introduced on February 10,
Mr Bungard, who launched the business in the late 1970s before selling 80% of his shares in 2002, told the BBC: “I’m very proud and have the greatest confidence in the people who have raised the money to get it back in business again.
“We’ve always believed that there is a great value in having a water-based transport in Bristol. The harbour links a lot of tourist attractions, the railway station and city centre and we’ve always thought there should be a lot more people travelling by boat.”
