Technology lawyer Martin Cuell has been appointed as a consultant by Bristol-headquartered Burges Salmon in a move that takes him back to the national law firm after just over a decade.
Martin, pictured, previously spent nearly 13 years at Burges Salmon as a senior associate before moving to Foot Anstey, where he was a partner for 10 years.
At Foot Anstey he led its Bristol-based technology practice, advising clients in a wide variety of sectors, including finance, transport, utilities, emergency services, military, retail, energy and pure technology, on a wide range of work.
These included major transformation projects, the implementation and outsourcing of technology solutions, supplying tech services and licensing and cloud services as well as advising organisations on emerging technologies, such as drones, quantum computing and AI.
Burges Salmon said his return to the firm, where he will work with its technology practice, was testament to rapidly growing team and its positive and collaborative culture.
In January Burges Salmon, which employs 800 people in its Bristol HQ and London and Edinburgh offices, was named as the country’s best law firm to work for by legal website RollOnFriday. The accolade was based on the views of the firm’s people.
Burges Salmon technology and fintech partner Martin Cook, pictured below, said: “Technology is a significant focus for our firm, and an important growth area both for us and our clients, so we are excited to welcome a lawyer of Martin’s calibre back to Burges Salmon.
“Martin has spent many years working on a wide range of significant technology projects for a diverse client base, so he has a genuine understanding of the issues that clients and in-house teams face both on a daily basis and on major programmes of work.”
Burges Salmon’s technology team brings together the firm’s transactional and advisory lawyers who advise clients in the sector and on technology and data projects across all sectors.
It acts for the full range of clients, from high-growth emerging digital-first and technology businesses and their founders to multinational technology services providers and corporate and financial institution purchasers of these services.
The team also advises private equity and venture capital funds, high net worth individuals and institutional investors on investment in – and successful exits from – companies in the technology sector, as well as numerous central and local government entities.
The team operates across all key technology verticals, from more established areas such as IT outsourcing, cybersecurity and cloud services to new and emerging technologies and propositions including AI, robotics, intelligent mobility and digital assets.
