Burges Salmon, the Bristol-headquartered law firm, has been appointed by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) to its newly-created legal panel.
The firm will provide the FSCS with a range of legal services as one of eight firms appointed to the panel to manage the majority of its legal advice and representation.
The FSCS is the UK’s compensation fund of last resort for customers of authorised financial services firms. Its full legal panel comprises four work categories that will cover core FSCS legal services, Scottish legal services, employment law & ancillary legal services, and lower value dispute resolution services.
The panel started last month and will run for three years, with the potential to be extended by a further year.
Kari McCormick, pictured, a partner in Burges Salmon’s disputes & litigation team, said: “Financial services is one of the key sectors for us as a business.
“FSCS plays a vital role in maintaining stability and confidence in the UK’s financial services sector.”
The FSCS protects deposits, insurance, investments and home finance. Since 2001 it has protected more than 4.5m people and paid out £26bn in compensation in response to firm failures. It is funded by financial services firms.
