A seasoned financial services regulatory lawyer and compliance specialist has joined Bristol-headquartered national law firm Burges Salmon as a director.
Matthew Hancock-Jones, pictured, has taken up the role in the firm’s financial services and financial regulatory practice groups, having previously worked at US finance giant JPMorgan Chase, where he was co-head of compliance with responsibility for overseeing regulatory compliance for Chase UK’s new digital financial services products.
He has a broad range of experience including both private practice and in-house roles. Prior to Chase UK, Matthew was worked at GoHenry, the firm behind the UK’s leading children’s debit card and finance app, as General Counsel, heading its UK and European legal team along with being part of its executive management team.
He has also been head of compliance at business card payment firm Dojo, Senior Counsel, head of credit legal at FinTech Revolut, compliance advisor and conduct risk lead at finance group Investec, and head of banking and credit compliance at Barclays Private Bank.
Matthew said: ”Having spent a number of years working in-house at a variety of different financial sector organisations – from scaling FinTechs through to significant retail and investment banks and wealth management businesses – returning to private practice presents a very exciting opportunity for me to utilise my experience and knowledge of the dynamic challenges within the financial services sector for the benefit of Burges Salmon’s clients.
“I am therefore thrilled to have joined Burges Salmon and am excited to be collaborating with colleagues and to work side-by-side with the team’s impressive roster of clients and to support those in my own professional network.”
Burges Salmon head of the funds and financial regulation team Tom Dunn added: “Matthew brings with him an exciting blend of in-house and private practice experience across the financial services sector, and we are very excited to welcome him to the team.
“His unique expertise will be instrumental in driving the firm’s ambitious growth plans and in delivering an exceptional service to the team’s clients.”
