Burges Salmon continues to promote from within by appointing five former trainees to partner

Five lawyers at Bristol-headquartered national law firm Burges Salmon who trained with the firm and rose through its ranks have become partners.

The firm said the promotions emphasised the progression of what it called its exceptional talent along with its ambitious strategy for growth across a number of key areas, including real estate, private wealth, dispute resolution, pensions, and transport.

It also said the move reinforced its ongoing commitment to delivering an exceptional service to its clients.

The partner promotions include:

Ros Harris – real estate. Ros specialises in renewable and low carbon energy projects with extensive experience in acting for developers, investors and funders at all points in the project life-cycle.

She has particular expertise in advising on projects which cross over between the energy & utilities and built environment sectors.

Tim Williams – tax, trusts and familyTim is a private wealth lawyer who works with a broad range of clients including trustees, entrepreneurs and wealthy families, advising on complex succession and capital tax planning.

He advises landowners around the UK on estate planning, wealth and business structures, including partnerships, trusts and companies.

Tim has a particular focus on development land matters, working with landowners alongside their real estate lawyers to achieve the best outcome for them and their families in succession and tax terms.

Caroline Brown – dispute resolutionCaroline specialises in managing multi-claims litigation, banking & finance disputes, complex contract and misrepresentation claims, and professional negligence.

She has extensive experience in advising financial institutions, whether in the context of banking and finance disputes or in claimant professional liability actions.

She advises both claimants and defendants, including the UK government, in dealing with large portfolios of high-value and complex claims.

Chris Brown – pensionsChris advises pension trustees and companies on all pensions legal issues. His work includes pensions projects, such as bulk transfers, corporate restructuring, valuation negotiations, benefit design changes, regulatory investigations, liability management exercises and buy-ins/outs, and also ‘business-as-usual’ matters.

He has a particular interest in providing strategic advice to employers, including on new solutions for pension provision coming out of the Pension Schemes Act 2021. He also leads and hosts Burges Salmon’s popular Pensions Pod podcast series.

Lydia Cullimore – projects. Lydia specialises in advising clients in the transport sector on a broad range of complex, commercial arrangements.

In particular, she specialises in advising clients in the rail industry on regulation, passenger contracts and passenger operations, freight and infrastructure projects.

Her work includes developing bespoke-but-practical solutions that address both the regulatory requirements and commercial outputs needed to deliver the best outcome.

Burges Salmon managing partner Roger Bull said it was particularly pleasing all five of the new partners had trained with the firm.
