Bristol design agency Green Chameleon has collaborated with the iconic 6 O’Clock Gin brand to create an eye-catching bottle for its limited-edition Brunel Gin.
The design on the black bottle takes inspiration from Brunel’s pioneering SS Great Britain – the world’s first propeller-driven iron ship when it entered service in 1845 – as well as 6 O’Clock’s distilling process.
It features detailing depicting the cogs that appeared across the original 6 O’Clock Gin packaging while also referencing the SS Great Britain, including a propeller, anchor, wheel and engine driving system.
The unusual colour of the bottle reflects the coal that powered the giant ship – the longest passenger vessel at the time of its launch – while the vibrant copper foil of the detailing has its roots in Bristol’s history of innovation.
6 O’Clock Gin is made by Thornbury-based Bramley & Gage, which describes the export strength (50% abv) Brunel Gin as “strikingly smooth”.
It has been distilled with more juniper and six additional botanicals for a more complex flavour profile. Production has been limited to 5,000 bottles.
Green Chameleon design director Nathan Riley said: “We were thrilled to work on another project with the 6 O’Clock team – after the spectacular success of the rebrand and packaging work we delivered last year.
“Creating a design so closely tied to our wonderful city’s heritage is a dream project for us and we believe that the finished product adds a unique twist to 6 O’Clock’s original packaging design, allowing it to stand proudly as a special edition product. The gin’s great too!”
For every bottle of Brunel Edition sold, £1 is donated to the SS Great Britain Trust, which will next year will open the Being Brunel museum alongside the iconic ship on Bristol’s Floating Harbour next year.
Bramley & Gage also produces a range of artisan liqueurs.
Green Chameleon was formed in 2011 and produces branding, design, web, video and marketing services for a range of clients.
