Bristol’s International Women’s Day Big Breakfast celebration returns next Thursday, bringing women together from across the city and beyond.
With 91 languages spoken in Bristol, the event will also celebrate the diversity of the city’s communities and the role women play in them with a host of speakers sharing their stories.
The Big Breakfast will again be hosted by Bambalan and will raise money for local charity One25 as well as offering a unique opportunity for networking.
One25 reaches out to women trapped in – or vulnerable to – street sex work, supporting them to break free and build new lives away from violence, poverty and addiction.
Founded in 1995 it is the only organisation specifically supporting street sex-working women. Its vision is for a community where all women are valued and able to live fulfilled lives without the risk of being trapped in sex work.
The speaker line-up includes:
Hemali Modha. A retail and creative entrepreneur, artist and co-founder of Jones & Modha, all natural perfume for people who love the planet,
Asher Craig. Councillor, Deputy Mayor, proud Bristolian, passionate campaigner, champion of equality & diversity
Rissa Mohabir. Designated Fellow of the British Council and Festival of Future Cities and developer of online training www.trauma-awareness.com
Grace Ekall. Coach and food entrepreneur at Taste Makossa
The Big Breakfast is hosted by entrepreneur, writer and fighter for grass roots causes Christina Robino.
Christina, who is also a director of BCfm Radio and an ambassador for food network 91 Ways – the Bristol-based initiative aiming to bring greater understanding, break down barriers and build a more cohesive city – said: “Our community is your business and the aim of the breakfast is to provide a warm and welcoming space in which to hear inspirational speakers, share food and support each other now and in the future.”
Jackie Hawken, founder Mindfulness Bristol and author of Mindfulness for A Broken Heart, attended last year. She said: “Having run a networking group for women for five years and having attended many business networking events, the last Big International Women’s Day Breakfast left me touched and heartened by some of the stories.
“The gathering was inspiring as was the venue it was one of the most diverse events I have attended in recent years.”
