A talented young Bristol filmmaker, whose award-winning productions have made it onto the international movie circuit, has joined PR and communications agency Empica as a videographer.
Grace Fox, pictured, graduated from University Centre Weston in Weston-super-Mare with a first-class honours degree in Lens-Based Media and a raft of short films under her belt, which she directed, wrote and produced.
After persuading Poldark and Doc Martin actor Rory Wilton to star in her first production Serpentine – about a Cornish fisherman who’s afraid of the sea, pictured below – he has since appeared in her other two completed films, along with his partner and fellow Poldark cast member Emma Spurgin Hussey.
Grace explained: “It was incredible really. After watching an episode of Doc Martin and seeing Rory Wilton in the role of Chippy Miller, I said to my mum: ‘That’s it. That’s my fisherman!’
“I started following Rory on Twitter and, as soon as he followed me back, I contacted him to ask him whether he would consider Serpentine, the short film I was working on. I was blown away when he replied to say yes.”
Grace’s second and third films – The Other Side and Among Us – won the Best Cinematography and Best Writing categories respectively at the Monkey Bread Tree Film Awards 2019 – an IMDb event which celebrates low-budget movies.
Grace is now working on her fourth film Empty Spaces – also starring Rory Wilton – with production due to start this month.
Grace has joined Wraxall-based Empica’s digital communications team as an in-house videographer. She said: “I was over the moon to land this role at Empica, which allows me to combine my passion for filmmaking with a job that will enable me to expand my skills and experience by working on videos for businesses from a wide range of sectors.
“The work at Empica is very varied, working alongside our PR and communications teams to bring our clients’ stories to life in new and exciting ways.
“In the few weeks since I’ve been on board, I’ve been involved in script writing, filming and editing for a large utilities company, a London-based charity and a coach company looking to promote its forthcoming trip to Belgium to visit the World War One battlefields and cemeteries.”
In her spare time, Grace has also made several videos, including one to promote a holiday cottage business and a care home looking to raise money for a cross-generational project involving elderly residents and primary school children.
A short mockumentary made before her short films about the Bristol ‘hum’ has now attracted 1.9m views on You Tube. To see Grace’s other films, visit https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBJVIQ2lwJOWHlhrv-c-QZA
