Medical training products made by Bristol-based specialist Limbs & Things such as birth simulators are to be used by schools and colleges across the UK to teach new healthcare T Levels.
It is now mandatory for students studying the Health and Healthcare Science T Levels to perform simulation training with task trainers and manikins to prepare them for their careers.
As a result, Limbs & Things is working closely with colleges to provide products that align with the healthcare teaching modules and curriculum.
The firm, which makes a wide range of pioneering medical task trainers at its St Philips factory, has put together a suite of products for students including catheterisation models, lifelike birth simulators that imitate labour and delivery and ‘arms’ that can be used to accurately simulate venipuncture and cannulation, pictured.
Limbs & Things commercial director Anne Allin said: “The new healthcare T Levels are a fantastic option for students considering a medical career and prefer more vocational learning.
“Our trainers offer a reliable and accurate simulation experience and help trainees gain both competency and confidence.”
Launched in September 2021, the healthcare T levels have modules in adult nursing, midwifery, mental health, and therapy, which can lead to careers in nursing, pharmacy services, midwifery, and general care.
They are now being taught in a number of colleges across the region, with Limbs & Things recently supplying products for the courses to support New College, Swindon.
Queen’s Award-winning Limbs & Things was launched in 1990 by medical illustrator Margot Cooper to meet a need for new ways of gaining clinical skills by medical professions.
Today it employs around 200 people, has offices in the US, Australia and Europe as well as the UK and exports its products to more than 50 countries worldwide. Its products are used by specialists around the globe to address medical scenarios from routine examinations to emergency interventions.
