Bristol car dealership Wessex Garages has become the official vehicle sponsor for Bristol Green Capital 2015 and has supplied five zero-emission electric Nissan Leafs to transport staff and visitors around the city.
Bristol is gaining a high international profile during its year as European Green Capital and Bristol 2015 – the company set up to run events during the year – has already attracted a range of corporate backers including FirstGroup and accountants KPMG.
Privately owned Wessex Garages, which also has outlets in Cardiff, Gloucester and Newport, has handed over one of the 100% electric Leaf cars while Nissan GB is supplying four.
The five-door cars can drive for up to 124 miles on a single charge. They have an on-the-road price of £26,500 but are eligible for Government ‘plug-in’ grants of up to £5,000.
Group fleet/business centre manager at Wessex Garages’ Pennywell Road branch, Andy Provis, said: “We are so pleased we could get involved and support Bristol during its year as the European Green Capital.
“It’s a prestigious annual recognition designed to promote and reward the efforts of cities to improve the environment. Bristol is the first ever UK city to win the award and it celebrates Bristol’s environmental performance.
“The cars will be used by Bristol 2015 throughout the year for events and to transport delegates around the city. We are delighted we could get involved and do our bit to support the initiative. The Nissan Leaf is the ideal car for the organisation to use as it is 100% electric and has zero emissions. It is also the world’s best-selling electric car.”
Bristol 2015 operations and commercial director Ben Hardy added: “We are delighted that Wessex Garages and Nissan GB are making five Nissan Leafs available for Bristol 2015 to use.
“There will be inspiring events that will give everyone, from school children to local businesses the chance to get involved throughout the year.”
