Bristol City Council leader Simon Cook and Bristol Green Capital Partnership chair Professor Martin Bigg are attending this evening’s ceremony, where Bristol is up against Copenhagen and Frankfurt.
Cllr Cook and Prof Bigg were part of the seven-person delegation that presented Bristol’s case to the European Commission panel in Brussels earlier this month.
The Bristol Green Capital Partnership has received support from 3,500-plus firms, organisations, schools and individuals with nearly a third of these pledges from businesses in and around the city.
Winning the title would give Bristol’s innovative and creative sectors a major boost, according to leading figures from the city’s business community.
Speaking ahead of the trip to Vitoria-Gasteiz, Prof Bigg said: “We gave the best presentation we possibly could in Brussels and the feedback from the jury was very positive.
“They were impressed with the enthusiasm in Bristol, the public support and involvement of so many organisations and individuals – it really is a bid for the whole city, not just for the city council or the Green Capital Partnership.”
Bristol Business News was among the first organisations to pledge its support for Bristol’s bid.
