Fast-growing Bristol-based mobile app Wriggle, which connects users to exclusive, on-the-day discounts at bars, restaurants and events, has been named as one of the top seven tech start-ups in Europe.

The innovative firm landed the prestigious title at Seedcamp 2014 – a gathering of 20 of Europe’s best seed-stage technology start-ups staged this week at Google’s headquarters in London.

Wriggle will now receive focused extensive mentoring and guidance and a package worth more than £100,000 to help the business grow to its potential.

The app, launched in Bristol in May, brings users last-minute offers at hand-picked local independent restaurants, bars and events across the city – helping businesses fill empty spots at the last moment, reduce waste and boost revenue.

It has grown rapidly since its launch and now works with almost 100 businesses, and has 5,000 users in Bristol. It plans to expand into London and Manchester after recently hitting its investment target of £130,000 on crowd-funding website Seedrs.

CEO and founder Rob Hall said: “It’s amazing that Wriggle has won. It’s a huge opportunity to show people what we’ve been working so hard on, and it’s great that the judges saw the value in the business.”

Its aim is to create a new and sustainable spin on a deal-sector that is dominated by companies like Groupon. The start-up only works with handpicked independent high-quality businesses, charging a small commission on each transaction, and focusing on only filling spaces that would have been empty.

The company has built a strong following in a short space of time –already working with Bristol institutions like The Old Vic and The Tobacco Factory, as well as some of the finest independent restaurants and bars the city has to offer including The Runcible Spoon, Crofters Rights, Steak of the Art, Zazu’s Kitchen, Small Street Espresso, Mathilda’s Chilli and many more. Wriggle will also be doing weekly Wriggle Wednesdays at the Bristol Old Vic – offering less than half price tickets at shows.
