Bristol businesses are being urged to help make cancer care in the city the best it can possibly be as part of a new campaign which launched this week.
Bristol Against Cancer has been started by Above & Beyond, the NHS charity for University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW).It brings together hospital staff, former and current patients and the people of Bristol and beyond to help cancer patients at city centre hospitals.
Above & Beyond raises money for things over and above what the NHS can provide, including safe, modern and friendly environments, innovative research, the latest equipment and staff training.
Above & Beyond philanthropy and partnerships manager Elaine Gibson said: “It’s time to talk about the other ‘C’ word. Cancer has continued to affect the lives of thousands of local people over the last few months.
“We need the businesses of Bristol and beyond to come together and support cancer patients across the South West and ensure they get the best care possible.”
With help from its supporters, Above & Beyond plans to invest £2m into cancer services across the hospitals.
Business teams could plan their own event or take on one of the charity’s virtual challenge events – Cycle Against Cancer or Challenge Against Cancer.
Elaine added: “We want to provide NHS staff in Bristol city centre hospitals with the support, environment, equipment and facilities to deliver the best care to their patients.
“We believe in the NHS. But we know it can’t do what it needs to without us.”
