Fast-growing insurance broker Brightside Group has bought the corporate headquarters it moved into five years ago – the former Aust motorway services area overlooking the first Severn Bridge. The deal, involving an undisclosed sum, comprises the 14-acre site and the 40,000 sq ft former motorway service area adjacent to the M48 – formerly the M4.

The fast-growing insurance broker, which started life a decade ago with two staff, now employs more than 600 staff at Aust and a string of call centres and was named South West Business of the Year in 2011.

It reported a 48.1% increase in revenue to £66.2m for 2010 and is due to report its 2011 figures next Friday, March 23.

In a January trading update, the group reported a solid trading performance at the end of last year and said its annual results would be in line with expectations set in November when it predicted not only a record year for the group but also a significant increase in reported earnings per share.

The Bristol office of Colliers International negotiated not only the property sale on behalf of private Irish investors but also the simultaneous surrender of the head lease.

Colliers director of investment  Richard Coombs said the landmark site had seen many changes since it was first opened as Aust motorway services in the mid 60s. It was previously operated  by Top Rank, Pavilion and Granada until 2000 when Motion Media bought the site and embarked on a major  commercial redevelopment to convert the former motorway services building into their  HQ.
