More growth for Bishop Fleming’s Bristol office as it also announces further expansion in the Midlands

Regional audit, accountancy, tax and advisory firm Bishop Fleming is to expand its Bristol office – already the largest in its network – and open a base in Birmingham as it continues to grow.

The firm, which has 40 partners and nearly 550 staff, will also relocate its Exeter team along with a number of other upgrades to its offices in what it expects to be a transformational year.

Longer term, it expects to recruit several hundred more people over the next few years in a continual re-investment to better enable its growth plans, having already doubled in size over the past five years to achieve annual fee income of more than £50m,

Bishop Fleming has occupied its 13,000 sq ft Bristol office at 10 Templeback, pictured, since relocating from a smaller base in Queen Square in 2020.

It is now taking additional space on an adjacent floor as it seeks to grow its Bristol presence further.

Meanwhile, its new Birmingham base will strengthen its presence in the Midlands, a region it has covered from its office in Worcester since merging with a firm in the city nearly 14 years ago.

Its Birmingham office, in the city’s Colmore Business District, will become the firm’s ninth office when it opens in the coming weeks.

Bishop Fleming managing partner Andrew Sandiford, pictured, below right, outside the new Birmingham base with office lead Mark Taylor, said the decision to open in Birmingham was part of “an exciting, bold vision to accelerate our growth as one of the leading mid-tier businesses in the UK”.

He added: “In 2023 we added our new Cheltenham office to strengthen our position in the M5 corridor along with our existing Worcester office – so our ambition to push further into the Midlands has been planned for some time.

“But 2025 will see us accelerate those plans, and rapidly too, to really drive our growth into a market we see real potential for our business.

“Our strategy for Birmingham is to scale up quickly through rewarding, organic growth.

“As such, we have every intention for Birmingham to become one of the largest offices on our portfolio within the next few years.

“That is ambitious, but at the same time a fantastic opportunity for those looking for a fresh new challenge, or those looking to make their mark in leadership roles.”

Bishop Fleming has recruited Mark Taylor, former Birmingham office lead and regional managing partner of national accountancy group RSM’s Central region, as office lead for its new Birmingham base.

Mark said: “I’m delighted to be working with Bishop Fleming to build a fantastic new alternative in the accounting and advisory sector in Birmingham and across the Midlands.

“I’ve been hugely impressed by my interactions with the Bishop Fleming team over recent months and with their values and business ethos. I am looking forward to leading the business into this new market.”

Bishop Fleming has also recruited its first senior hire – an audit partner – from a Big Four accountancy firm in Birmingham and has plans to quickly establish full-service operations across all its core audit, accountancy, tax and advisory service lines in the new office.
