Caroline Smale, the compliance director at fast-growing West accountants Bishop Fleming, has been elected to the practice committee of the profession's national body.
Caroline joined Bishop Fleming as a graduate trainee 25 years ago and became its compliance director in 2005.
From June, she will sit on the practice committee of the ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales) having captured votes from accountants across the country in the election for five vacant places on the oversight body.
Her role will be to contribute to the ICAEW’s strategy and identify issues it should address for practising accountants.
Bishop Fleming managing partner Matthew Lee said: “For the past eight years, Caroline has been our internal guardian of professional procedures, and we all rely on her superb expertise. I can think of no one better to sit on the committee that oversees the needs of our profession.”
In her personal statement for the election Caroline Smale said: “I’m not an ‘anorak', but I do have wide experience of practice matters, including practice assurance, money laundering , client money, ethics, audit regulation, student training , and learning & development.
“I would like to think that my colleagues would describe me as ‘practical, enthusiastic, a good communicator, and an ideas person’.”
