A Bristol charity that works with homeless and at-risk young people has received a much-needed financial boost worth £25,000 from national law firm Bevan Brittan’s office in the city.
Fundraisers from the firm worked throughout last year to bring in money for 1625 Independent People, which works to prevent youth homelessness across Bristol and the wider West of England.
Shortly before Christmas the charity received an additional £25,000 donation from Bevan Brittan to support its services for young people aged from 16 to 25 who are homeless, leaving care or at risk of homelessness.
It was part of an overall £100,000 pledged by the firm to four charities and not-for-profit organisations linked to each of its offices in Birmingham, Leeds and London as well as Bristol.
Bevan Brittan said the sum, the largest single donation it has ever given in a single year, reflected its community commitment and ambition to do even more to support good causes facing increasing fundraising challenges due to the cost of living crisis.
1625 Independent People CEO Dom Wood said: “We were thrilled to receive this generous donation from Bevan Brittan.
“The funds will enable us to continue to provide vital specialist mental health support for young people overcoming trauma, as well as activities and one-to-one support to show them they can believe in themselves, and that they have the skills to thrive as an independent adult.”
Bevan Brittan Bristol office partner and community engagement lead Fran Mussellwhite added: “We are delighted to be able to make this donation to 1625 Independent People to support the important work they are doing with young people in and around Bristol.
“It has been a real honour to partner with 1625 Independent People this year and to have been able to see first-hand their incredible work in the community.
“We are acutely aware of the challenges all charities and not-for-profit bodies face in the current economic climate and are proud to be able to provide this additional support this Christmas.”
Bevan Brittan’s pre-Christmas £100,000 charity donation was a 25% increase on the £80,000 donated by the firm in 2022, which was itself a record.
The firm employs more than 530 staff and has 90-plus partners across its four offices.
