Annual revenues at national law firm Bevan Brittan, which has an office in Bristol, have exceeded £60m for the first time in its history as it chalked up a ninth consecutive year of growth.

The firm said its expansion meant it would now consider hitting the acquisition trail as well as seeking more organic growth.

Bevan Brittan’s income in the year to 30 April rose by 7.2% to £60.08m, with profit also up by 6.6% to £15.7m.

Growth was achieved in both existing and emerging markets – most notably in financial services (up by 58%), independent health & social care (29%) and energy & resource management (24%).

The firm, which also has offices in Birmingham, Leeds and London, said its latest financial results mean that over the past nine years its revenue has shot up by 83% with profits soaring by 158%.

It also achieved a number of significant client wins over the year while seven partners also join the firm.

Bevan Brittan managing partner Duncan Weir said: “This is another strong outcome, which demonstrates the benefit of diversifying our markets, the strength and depth of our business and the excellent teams we have across the country.

“Exceeding £60m is a significant milestone for us but there is more to come. This has been a team effort and our ability to attract more high-quality, high-profile clients and recruits to Bevan Brittan shows that we are in a strong position to deliver further growth in the current financial year and beyond.”

He said the expansion in 2021/22 had put the firm in a strong position to consider options beyond organic growth, including acquisitions.

“We see a number of potential opportunities to develop our business further and have already had some interest, but we will only pursue an acquisition if it was the right move for us,” he added.

During the period Bevan Brittan was appointed to the prestigious Crown Commercial Service (CCS) central government legal services panel and reappointed to the leading local government legal frameworks – EM Lawshare, the London Borough Legal Alliance and the NHS Resolution legal panel.

In May it announced it had promoted 10% of its 320 lawyers, including five new partners, a new legal director, 13 senior associates and 13 new associates.

It also achieved carbon neutrality during the financial year and was awarded the UN’s Climate Neutral Now accreditation as part of its ongoing ‘responsible business’ programme.

Some £90,000 was donated to charitable causes by the firm during in the period, including £30,000 to the Disaster Emergency Committee Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal and £15,000 to each of its four office charities.

It also added to its awards haul, winning eight legal and business accolades across its markets and regions, including recognition as one of The Times’ Best Law Firms for the fourth consecutive year.
