Barclays clinics to showcase advantages of exporting

Barclays is hosting two clinics near Bristol later this month which will highlight the benefits of exporting, particularly to China, and provide know-how on doing it successfully.

Taking place on March 22 at Thornbury Golf Club, the clinics will be in the form of two identical sessions running from 10am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 4pm and will include representatives from UKTI, the China-Britain Business Council, the Institute of Export & International Trade and local Barclays International Trade experts.

Representatives from Bristol firm Red Dragon Advisers, who took part in an official trade mission to China, including Bristol's 'sister city' Guangzhou, pictured, last November, will be on hand to help others in the region overcome the barriers and challenges to international trade.

The event takes place on the back of research which reveals that exporting businesses expand faster than non-exporters – by an average of almost a third in just two years – and that 29 per cent of them achieve bottom line growth within just six months of expanding into international markets.

Some 87 per cent also say there are plenty of other benefits to exporting, including having greater confidence in the longevity of the business, increased productivity, stronger innovation and a longer lifespan for their products and services.

At the clinics Barclays will talk through the steps to successful exporting and answer key questions.

For example, which businesses are most suited to exporting? Is China a viable market to target? Barclays experts will also be on-hand to provide one-on-one advice relating to individual need.

Barclays Bristol area manager Dan Slater said: “Winning business overseas is a vitally important way for SMEs to prosper and help grow our way out of recession. Our research shows that in the challenging domestic market, exporting provides attractive new revenue growth of up to a third, boosting the bottom line and supporting job creation.

“We are committed to helping UK SMEs take that step to winning new trade around the world, and have experts in place across the globe ready to lend their support and advice.”

Last year Barclays launched a new product Business Abroad which is a one-stop shop to help businesses start trading overseas.  It offers free access to expert guidance, advice, workshops and tools, as well as discounts on international products and services.
