Bake sales, sweepstakes and a pub quiz were among the fundraising efforts by staff at Bristol law firm Barcan+Kirby that helped it raise £10,000 for local charity Jessie May.
One member of staff ran the Great Bristol 10K, adding £1,000 to the total while other activities included raffles, cheese sales and an auction.
Jessie May, based in Kingswood, where Barcan+Kirby has one of its five offices, provides at-home nursing and respite care for children and young people with terminal or life limiting conditions.
The firm selected Jessie May as its chosen charity last year after a member of staff’s family was supported by it.
Barcan+Kirby head of marketing and business development Lucy Harttrup said: “It has been a privilege to raise funds for Jessie May with colleagues from our offices getting involved.
“Jessie May is a wonderful charity and we really enjoyed hearing about how the money we raised would get used to help families spend precious time with their children in their own homes.”
Jessie May community engagement fundraising officer Kim James-Coggins added: “We are so grateful to all the team at Barcan+Kirby for all they have done to support Jessie May.
“They have really thrown themselves into fundraising with lots of great activities.
“The money raised will make a huge difference to us, ensuring our nurses can continue to support our families. They are an amazing team of people who really care about local charities.”
Jessie May was set up by parents Chris and Philippa Purrington following the death of their baby daughter Jessica May in 1994 from a genetic condition known as severe Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
Since then it has supported more than 300 children and their families across Bristol, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset, Bath & North East Somerset and Swindon & Wiltshire.
Barcan+Kirby supplies a comprehensive range of legal services ranging from corporate & commercial and employment to family and medical negligence. It was the Bristol Law Society’s Law Firm of the Year (under 20 Partners) in 2021.
