Six grassroots organisations benefiting their communities in parts of Bristol and South Gloucestershire are to receive much-needed financial support through a fund set up by Bristol law firm Barcan+Kirby.
The fund, now in its second year, provides up to £300 for organisations or charities in areas where Barcan+Kirby has its six offices.
A record number of applications were received, which were reviewed and carefully considered by a panel of individuals from across the firm.
Organisations chosen were Age UK Bristol in BS1, Friends of Greville Smyth Park Junior Park Run in BS3, Muslim Scout Fellowship Camp in BS7, Friends of Courtney Primary School PTA in BS15, PHASE Thornbury in BS35 and University of Bristol SU Phab – a group aimed at creating a more inclusive community by bringing together disabled and non-disabled young people – in BS8.
Barcan+Kirby head of marketing Lucy Harttrup said: “It was really tough to pick the six organisations to receive the funding. There are so many wonderful community organisations out there and they are all incredibly deserving of support.”
Marie Isles, operation manager at PHASE Thornbury, a Community Interest Company that offers support to young people and their families, said: “The money we have received from Barcan+Kirby will assist with the continuation of providing our services; including mentoring, counselling and tutoring.”
Age UK Bristol applied for funding for its FAB (Friends Aging Better) Disco, pictured. Communications and fundraising manager Jennifer DeKalb-Poyer added: “We are very grateful for the support of the Barcan+Kirby Community Fund.
“It gives us the funding we need to deliver a fun activity for older people in Bristol. The Discos are a great way to be physically active, have fun and make friends.”
Barcan+Kirby was named Law Firm of the Year (under 20 partners) at the Bristol Law Society Awards 2021 and won the Business Award for Gender at the Bristol Diversity Awards 2019.
