Bristol’s iconic Avon Gorge Hotel is under new ownership following its sale to the group behind the Hotel du Vin and Malmaison brands.
The 75-bedroom Avon Gorge, famous for its terrace overlooking the Clifton Suspension Bridge, will continue under its existing name into next year when new owner Frasers Centrepoint will reveal its plans for the hotel.
Frasers acquired the Avon Gorge as part of a four-strong portfolio of hotels previously owned by Swire Properties Hotels, part of the China-based Swire conglomerate. Also included in the package are the Montpellier Chapter in Cheltenham, the Magdalen Chapter, Exeter, the Hotel Seattle in Brighton.
Frasers paid £36.1m for the four hotels, which it bought through its Malmaison and Hotel du Vin Property Holdings subsidiary.
The new hotels take Frasers Hospitality’s global portfolio to 136 properties across 78 cities, including the Hotel du Vin in Bristol.
Frasers Hospitality chief executive Choe Peng Sum said: “These four stylish and iconic hotels in their respective cities are a perfect fit for Malmaison and Hotel du Vin, and this acquisition is clearly in line with the group’s expansion strategy of the brands within the UK, Europe and Asia.”
