At-Bristol’s exhibitions director Dan Bird has become one of the next generation of Noyce Leadership Fellows.
The year-long fellowship programme, which Dan completed this month, has given him access to knowledge, tools, world-class best practices and professional networks to increase capacity to lead effectively and to advance innovation within the At-Bristol educational charity and the wider community.
Dan joined 17 other worldwide leaders from science centres, children's museums and natural history museums around the globe on the scheme – a collaboration between the Noyce Foundation, the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC) and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
Each had to complete a rigorous application process and were selected by a cadre of senior professionals from the fields of science centres and executive education.
The programme provided a mix of face-to-face sessions, coaching, peer learning, audio conferencing, and other learning strategies over a year, followed by ongoing fellow alumni activities.
Over the year Dan has led his team through the opening of At-Bristol’s largest exhibition to date, All About Us, the design and build of the London 2012-inspired exhibition In the Zone on behalf of the Wellcome Trust and the imminent opening of another exhibition in July for the science centre, Our World – no more waste.
Dan said: “The past year has been really interesting, not only to see what other science centres worldwide are doing, but also reflecting on the exhibition work we’ve carried out in At-Bristol, both in the venue and for several overseas projects we’ve led on.
“The Noyce Fellowship was an honour to be chosen for and what I’ve learned from it will form a big part of my continual work with my team and the whole organisation.”
