Plans to redevelop Bristol City’s Ashton Gate ground as an alternative to building a controversial new stadium go on show to the public tomorrow and Wednesday.
Bristol Sport Limited (BSL) announced in February it is considering the redevelopment of the existing football ground instead of moving to a new purpose-built stadium at nearby Ashton Vale.
That scheme – a long-held ambition by the club – has run into numerous problems on several fronts including objections to the greenfield location of the planned new stadium and fears over the impact of building a supermarket on the site of the current ground. However, BSL is continuing with the plan in parallel to the Ashton Gate re-build.
Members of the project development team will be on hand to explain the proposals and answer questions.
Ashton Gate development director Guy Price: “Since the announcement earlier this year, we have consulted widely with our supporters, many interested parties and our neighbours.
“We are now ready to present the proposals to the public and I encourage everybody to use this opportunity to give us your comments and feedback.”
The public consultation displays will be in the AMC Communications Lounge at Ashton Gate between noon and 9pm tomorrow and 10am-7pm on Wednesday.
A multi-purpose stadium at Ashton Gate would be used by newly-relegated Bristol City and Bristol Rugby, both overseen by BSL.
Both the Ashton Gate and Ashton Vale projects are running side-by-side, giving BSL the opportunity to select the more viable option.
