Former rugby league forward Lee Crooks has become the latest high-profile sportsman to join expanding health and protection specialists APRIL UK as a specialist sports protection advisor.
The former Great Britain international, pictured, played for many of the country’s top rugby league outfits and was also general manager at Featherstone Rovers.
Bristol-based APRIL UK provides private medical insurance to 10 of the 13 Super League clubs including Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves, Huddersfield Giants and Salford City Reds.
Lee’s role will include signing up rugby union, football and other sports clubs as well as those in rugby league where he is still remembered as one of the game’s outstanding talents.
He said: “As a former professional rugby league player I am ideally qualified to go to the clubs and players and help APRIL UK step up its presence in the Super League and Championship.
“My role will be to advise amateur and professional sports people on all APRIL UK lifestyle protection products and give recommendations based on their own individual needs. It’s all about making sure you are protected in case of major or minor injuries.
“As full time professionals the lads playing in the Super League have various levels of medical insurance available to them but those playing at semi-pro level in the Championship or around the country won’t necessarily have any medical insurance in place.”
Lee will also be involved with developing the self-employed and small business team.
APRIL UK, part of the French-owned APRIL Group, set up a dedicated sports division just over a year ago to promote medical cover in the event of injury on the field. It has signed up a number of prominent former players to its sales team.
Its sports private medical insurance plan provides immediate access to diagnostics and scans.
