A team of professionals from accountants Deloitte’s Bristol office swapped their suits for Lycra to raise £1,200 for the British Paralympic Association (BPA) by riding 250 miles in seven hours on bikes fixed on static ‘turbo-trainers’.

The riders were joined in their feat at Cabot Circus by the Lord Mayor of Bristol Cllr Peter Main, pictured below, who helped get shoppers into the fundraising spirit.

The event was a pre-cursor next month’s Deloitte Ride Across Britain. Now in its third year, it involves around 700 cyclists riding from Land’s End to John O’Groats with the aim of raising more than £1m for the BPA, the national charity supporting British athletes through each Paralympic Games. Those taking part cross nearly 1,000 miles of varied and challenging terrain over a course of just nine days.

Deloitte partner in Bristol Andrew Jones said: “The turbo training event was a great way of supporting Paralympic athletes and raising awareness of Deloitte Ride Across Britain.

“We’ve been extremely pleased with the generous donations from the people of Bristol and that will certainly keep us pushing onwards as we pass through the city during the ride on the September 9.”
