Accountants BDO land top title of busiest firm for mergers and acquisitions

Accountants and business advisors BDO has been named the most active merger and acquisition advisor in the UK.

The accolade came in the latest financial adviser league tables published by Experian Corpfin and follows its recent success at the British Accountancy Awards when it won the prestigious Tax Award of the Year in the Global Firm category.

The firm, which covers the South West from its base in central Bristol, achieved the top ranking with a number of cross border deals and a strong private equity related deal flow.

Despite an uncertain climate and a challenging business landscape, Experian Corpfin’s data revealed a 10.9% increase in the value of transactions last year – demonstrating the willingness of corporate and private equity buyers to invest where they see the opportunity for growth.

BDO’s Bristol-based corporate finance director David Abbott said: “A build-up in corporate cash reserves, due in part to the eurozone crisis, and an increase in private equity firepower have resulted in a real appetite for mergers and acquisitions and we expect this to translate to the South West.

“As the eurozone crisis continues, we anticipate overseas companies to favour acquisitions in the UK rather than the eurozone, and the South West is well-placed to capitalise on such an increase in interest.”
