Britain's largest organic dairy brand, North Somerset-based Yeo Valley, is hosting a special garden theatre event in June for families and schoolchildren at its Blagdon headquarters.
The play entitled I, Peaseblossom and I, Caliban is a new co-production by Bristol Old Vic and Company of Angels in association with North Somerset charity Theatre Orchard Project. The innovative one-man performance is based on Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Tempest. Taking unique perspectives from characters usually consigned to the sidelines, the production promises to fascinate and delight both children studying Shakespeare and adults with a passion for theatre.
I, Peaseblossom will tell the story of A Midsummer Night’s Dream as re-lived through the fevered nightmares of Shakespeare’s most neglected fairy. I, Caliban is a sweet and sorry tale of injustice, inebriation and missing your mum, as told by Shakespeare’s puppy-heading monster Caliban, alone on Prospero’s island at the end of The Tempest.
A spokesman for the family-run company, which has its own herd of pedigree British Friesian cows, said: "Whether visiting with the family, along with a rug and picnic, or attending as a school-class to top up on English or drama lessons, what better way to take in some Shakespeare this summer than in the inspiring setting of Yeo Valley’s stunning Organic Garden. As one of only a handful of organic gardens in the UK, Yeo Valley has spent the last 18 years turning six and a half acres of land into a diverse, seasonal and beautiful patchwork of ornamental and edible planting areas."
There will be two performances on Wednesday June 6 – a matinee and an evening showing. Each performance will last two hours, and will be suitable for children aged 8 upwards. Refreshments will be on sale including a barbecue at each performance, along with drinks and Yeo Valley ice cream.
Yeo Valley are offering tickets, ordered directly with them, for just £5 which will include a £5 voucher for food. For details on how to book a ticket, email sally@yeovalley.co.uk.
