Accountants Grant Thornton has welcomed 65 former Audit Commission emloyees to its public sector assurance practice in the South West, which carries out external audit services for NHS bodies and local authorities.
The move makes Grant Thornton the largest provider of assurance and advisory services to public sector bodies in the region – and in the country as a whole.
South West staff will be based from Truro to Dorchester so that the firm can service the needs of clients right across the region.
The new employees will join the existing Grant Thornton team of 20 public sector assurance specialists, who work together with specialist tax and advisory colleagues to support public clients across the region. The regional team has taken on more than 70 new NHS and local authority external audit clients as a result of the move.
Grant Thornton partner and head of the South West public sector assurance team, John Golding, said: “Our significantly enlarged team means we now have the strength and breadth of expertise to provide assurance to the public and constructive advice to clients right across the public sector.
“This growth resulting from a major tender exercise conducted earlier this year, confirms the quality of work delivered by the firm over the last 30 years, and we are delighted that this quality and expertise has been recognised as the basis for our growth. This is a very exciting time for our dynamic and ambitious regional practice.”
