Bristol businesses are being asked to help an influential group of MPs and peers from across the West of England and South Wales shape their agenda for change during the year ahead.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for the Western Gateway – the partnership covering the ‘super-region’ stretching from Swindon to Swansea via Bristol – is seeking suggestions from organisations on how to trigger economic growth.

The group has been reformed following last year’s General Election to bring together national politician from across different political parties to help raise the profile of the Western Gateway and champion opportunities for the region in Parliament.

It is co-chaired by Labour MP Catherine Fookes and Conservative peer Lord Davies of Gower and its members include Filton and Bradley Stoke Labour MP Claire Hazlegrove MP.

The APPG is keen to hear from organisations and members of the public to understand what issues are of importance to the area, particularly along the themes of:

  • Increasing investment into the area
  • Supporting innovation and innovative business
  • Better connecting communities through public transport and improved digital connectivity
  • Encouraging energy security and net zero.

Proposals will be considered by the MPs and peers, with at least one of the proposals forming part of the group’s agenda over the next 12 months.

The deadline for submission is 28 February.
