A litigation expert named as one of the best in her field has joined law firm Thrings’ award-winning agriculture team as a legal director in its Bristol office.

Polly Ridgway, pictured with Thrings partner Robert James, has arrived from law firm Clarke Wilmott, where she spent nine-and-a-half years, most recently as a senior associate.

Thrings said Polly brought more than a decade of legal experience, during which she acted for clients on a wide range of agricultural matters.

Her areas of expertise include farming partnership issues, tenancies and occupation issues, land disputes and contentious probate, estates and trusts.

She has also acted for clients in high-profile cases, notably on the opposing side to Thrings in the Supreme Court on the landmark Guest v Guest proprietary estoppel case, which has shaped the law on farming inheritance disputes.

She has been recognised for a number of years in the UK’s two most prestigious legal directories, with the most recent edition of the Legal 500 naming her as a ‘leading associate’ for her work in contentious trusts and probate, while Chambers & Partners listed her as an ‘associate to watch’ for her work in agriculture and rural affairs.

As the newest member of Thrings’ nationally recognised agricultural team, which is itself in the top tier of both the Legal 500 and Chambers, Polly will be utilising her skills to support clients on rural land disputes, including tenancies and notices to quit, farming partnership disputes, succession disputes, land occupation and land issues.

She described Thrings as one of, if not the best agricultural law firms in the country, with an outstanding reputation for excellence.

“I am thrilled to be joining the team and helping them to deliver its exceptional legal service for the firm’s wide array of clients,” she said.

“I am delighted to contribute to the firm’s continued success.”

Thrings agricultural litigation team partner Robert James added: “At Thrings, we are always looking to strengthen our ability to provide a comprehensive service that meets the needs of our clients by having the best people for the job.

“With Polly’s outstanding track record and profile within the market and the farming community, we are excited to have her join the team.”

Thrings’ agriculture team is one of the largest of its kind in the UK, with decades of experience in successfully supporting its farming and landowner clients to achieve their aims and the potential for their business.

A full service firm, Thrings employs around 350 people in its seven offices across the South West and South.
