A health club and spa on Bristol’s doorstep featuring a gym that recently underwent a £1m upgrade has won a prestigious national award for the third time.
Theclub and spa at Cadbury House, Congresbury, pictured, topped the Health Club of the Year category at the National Fitness Awards – a feat never previously achieved in the contest – beating shortlisted venues from as far afield as Northern Ireland and Scotland in the process.
Organised by Script Events and industry publication Workout – and with voting from experts in the field of health, fitness and wellbeing - the awards are regarded as the Oscars of the health and fitness sector, recognising excellence and achievement in all corners of the industry.
The category judges who visited theclub and spa as part of the assessment said they were particularly impressed by the range and quality of the facilities, classes and constant investment in new equipment and space for members.
Theclub and spa boasts more than 80 treatments along with a salon, sauna and indoor pool while, following its £1m refurbishment, the gym is now regarded as being the most technically advanced in the region.
Theclub and spa general manager Jason Eaton said: “To be crowed winners in what is arguably the most sought after and biggest category is a fantastic achievement, and I’d like to thank all the team for their continued commitment to make the club and spa the best there is.
“This award is for everyone involved with the club, including all the members and staff. We constantly strive to provide the best in health and wellbeing and to be recognised for that by our peers is a great achievement.
“We’ll now work even harder to make sure theclub and spa maintains its position as the best in the business and to give our members the service and facilities they deserve.”
Cadbury House, which has 132 bedrooms, was acquired in 2003 by hotel industry entrepreneur Nick Taplin, who has since ploughed more than £28m into it.
For the past 11 years it has been owned by Black & White Hospitality, the group he co-founded with award-winning chef Marco Pierre White.
Nick Taplin said: “This is such fantastic news not only for Cadbury House but the team there, the loyal members and the community as a whole. I could not be prouder.
“I would like to congratulate Jason and his amazing team on winning this prestigious award.
“A tremendous amount of work and ongoing investment goes on behind the scenes to ensure the smooth running of the business which has now resulted in it being named the best.
“By continually improving members and guests’ experience is what sets us apart from all other health clubs.
“There is nothing quite like theclub and spa at Cadbury House and we can now officially say that we are the best in the whole of the UK again.”
