Bristol-headquartered national law firm Burges Salmon has said it is “extremely proud” to have supported The Welcome Party, the recent event that celebrated the contributions and success stories of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants in the city’s workforce.

Staged by ACH, the Bristol social enterprise focused on integration and empowerment, The Welcome Party showcased the immense value and richness diversity and social mobility bring to the workplace – with Olympic Gold medallist Sir Mo Farah taking part in its keynote interview.

As headline sponsor Burges Salmon, which employs around 1,100 people across its offices in Bristol, Edinburgh and London, was joined in supporting the event by The Guild of Guardians, City of Bristol College, Bath-based housing association and property group Curo and YTL Group utility company Wessex Water.

Burges Salmon said its partnership with ACH underscored the important role businesses play and the responsibility needed in reshaping public perceptions of refugees and migrants throughout the community.

Chris Seaton, senior partner at the firm, told guests at the event: “As part of our community engagement, and in particular our work with refugee charities to tackle food insecurity and the digital divide, we’ve met some truly incredible people, who in the face of adversity and against all odds, have shown enormous resilience and ambition and who are now thriving in our city.

“Tonight, we shine a light on these inspiring stories, echoing the cultural and economic richness that comes with embracing that diversity.

“But tonight is also a moment for change because it is within our sphere of influence to make sure that everyone, regardless of where they started their journey, feel that they have the opportunity to play a part, and share in our collective future and success.

“As business leaders, we must commit to cultivating workplace cultures where difference continues to be visibly valued and welcomed.”
