A partner in the Bristol office of law firm Thrings has been named as one of the 50 most influential Muslims in Europe.
Salma Maqsood, pictured, who joined Thrings’ development of land team this summer, features in a list produced by EqualityX, which celebrates outstanding Muslim talent and champions the achievements of inclusive Muslim employers.
Featuring in EqualityX’s ‘Top 50 most influential Muslims in Europe’ list adds to Salma’s already impressive reputation within the legal sector.
She is already a recognised figure in the region’s legal sector, serving both as junior vice-president of the Bristol Law Society and as a social mobility ambassador for The Law Society, mentoring aspiring solicitors and students from all backgrounds.
This work also coincides with her role as a founding board member of the Ethnic Solicitors South West Network.
EqualityX’s Top 50 list recognises and celebrates the achievements of Muslim professionals whose work has brought distinction to and enhanced the reputation of Muslims and their communities.
Salma said she was “absolutely thrilled” to have been considered by EqualityX for this year’s list and was honoured to be recognised as an influential advocate for her faith within the professional world.
“Growing up there were no visible role models I could identify with,” she added.
“I didn’t see or know of any Hijabi lawyers and at many points I felt this would be a barrier to making it in law.
“By having achieved what I have, I hope I can be the role model for the next generation that I would have been inspired by.”
Salma joined Thrings from Bristol law firm Barcan+Kirby, where she worked for nearly six years – the last three as a partner.
She has almost two decades of residential development sector experience, having acted on behalf of SME developers in all aspects of property transactions.
EqualityX’s Influential lists recognise professionals who are leading and shaping debates across a range of fields.
As well as Bristol, Thrings also has offices in Bath, London, Romsey, Ross-on-Wye, Marlborough and Lydney.
