A commitment to looking after its employees and creating a strong workplace culture has earned waste management and recycling specialist Grundon recognition in a leading staff wellbeing scheme.

The firm, which opened a base in Bristol depot four years ago and has since become a major player in the city’s waste management sector, received the ‘We invest in wellbeing’ accreditation from Investors in People, the respected people management organisation.

It follows a detailed assessment throughout May and June across all Grundon’s sites, as well as focus groups and an online survey open to all employees.

The results showed the company excelled by cultivating a positive workplace culture, characterised by mutual respect, role autonomy and expert colleagues.

The firm’s existing wellbeing strategy, emphasising employee welfare and continuous development, was central to its accreditation.

The accreditation includes a three-year action plan which provides Grundon with a structured approach to further improve its wellbeing initiatives.

Action points to come out of the assessment will now be rolled out for all Grundon’s employees across its sites.

Grundon’s newly appointed head of HR Bev Capewell said achieving the ‘standard’ accreditation marked a significant milestone for the firm and underlined its dedication to promoting a healthy and positive workplace.

“However, we are not resting on our success,” she added. “Our ambition is to reach the higher echelons of accreditation – gold or platinum – and we are fully committed to implementing the three-year action plan from Investors in People to achieve this goal.

“By working on this goal together as one team, I believe we can create an even more vibrant and supportive environment for all our employees.”

Berkshire-headquartered Grundon was launched in 1929 and today works with customers across the South of England to provide a total waste management service for the reduction, reuse, recycling, recovering and disposal of waste.

Since opening its Bristol depot in St Philips it has secured a number of waste management contracts across the city with organisations such as Bristol Zoo Project, the immersive visitor attraction Wake The Tiger, Gloucestershire Cricket Club and Bristol Golf Centre.

It has also introduced a £300,000 state-of-the-art electric collection vehicle to the city’s streets.
