A Bristol firm that has designed specialist footwear for health professionals for 45 years is to expand its product range following a key acquisition.
Toffeln, which is based in Kingswood, described its takeover of Avail Medical, a provider of high-quality electrosurgical instruments, as a significant milestone in the industry.
Staffordshire-based Avail’s surgical tools, such as bipolar forceps and electrodes, will now complement Toffeln’s range, which includes surgical gowns, sterilising equipment and face and eye protectors as well as its trademark clogs used by surgeons and other health professionals.
Toffeln said the strategic move would strengthen its position in the healthcare sector and better serve its customers in operating theatres.
Toffeln managing director Ben Turner said by integrating Avail Medical’s diverse product line with its own advanced footwear and surgical solutions, the firm aimed to set new standards in support and performance for healthcare professionals.
“This union represents a great step forward in our mission to support healthcare professionals with the best possible products and services,” he added.
“By bringing together our complementary strengths, we are poised to enabling better healthcare for staff as well as patients.”
He said the companies were committed to leveraging their joint resources to explore new opportunities and address the evolving needs of the healthcare sector.
Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.
Toffeln’s range of ergonomic footwear is designed in collaboration with leading biomechanics researchers.
The company says is approach is driven by “a deep understanding of medical professionals’ needs”, and is committed to excellence, innovation, and sustainability.
It collaborates closely with surgeons and clinicians to provide healthcare products that enhance surgical safety and capability, and infection control.
